In reading Us and Them: What it Really Means to Belong, a story shared by my sister-friend\u00a0Nneka Allen, CFRE, COC, PCC<\/a>\u00a0about confronting Anti-Black Racism in the charitable sector, the following verse from my contribution to Collecting Courage seems apply to the situation she encountered:

A reckoning well overdue\u2026now\u2019s the time for heeding advice.
Truth be told, \u2018The System\u2019 impotent can do no harm or deliver blows
Without its enablers, defenders and those in comfort of complacency\u2019s arms,
\u2018Cause as surely as it hurts \u2018Others\u2019 it\u2019s bamboozled self-anointed \u2018Belongers\u2019
planting seeds of hatred sprouting white superiority
instead of seeds of equity and our shared humanity. Oppression and
exploitation doesn\u2019t have to be our final destination.

My dear sister-friend @Nneka, you are fierce and\u00a0“brilliantly bold” and I admire how consistently and passionately you bring your values to life – within your family, in relationships you build and nurture, your work in serving\u00a0others – as manifested through your actions, approaches and behaviours. I applaud you for sharing your truth and bringing this story to light. It carries an important message worth sharing.\u00a0
